Kristie Self has been writing stories since she was 8-years-old. The only child of a bivocational
minister and his wife, Kristie grew up with a love of reading and a big imagination, which in turn led to writing stories.
Growing up in a small town as well as a small church helped to lay the foundation for The
Chronicles of Pine Springs.
Kristie studied music at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, but she
spent much of her spare time writing. She had already progessed from writing short stories to books. By the
time she was a senior in college, she knew that she wanted to be a writer.
After graduating from Howard
Payne with a degree in music, Kristie spent one year teaching elementary music. Deciding that it wasn't the path God had
for her, she resigned and took a job as a mortgage loan clerk in a local bank. It was then that she began to focus on the
possibility of a writing career.
The Chronicles of Pine Springs: Heaven's Garden is Kristie's
first novel to be published, and hopefully it will not be the last. She has already begun working on sequels to the book,
turning it into a series. She believes her writing is a gift from God and is using it as a form of ministry to others. "God
has taught me many things through the writing of this book," she says. "If something I have written makes a difference
for even one person, then it will have been worth it."
Kristie leads a very busy life. She is still employed
at the bank, and she is involved with music in addition to her writing. She teaches piano lessons and sings in a contemporary
Christian group formed by some of her friends. She attends the church where her father remains as pastor and is a Sunday school
teacher there. She is also in charge of the children's choir.
Despite the detours along the way, Kristie believes
the journey here has been well worth the effort. "At last, I feel as though I am fulfilling the purpose God has for me."
Kristie lives in Marlin, Texas with her two cats, Emily and Cinnamon.
